Arjun Halappa still cant believe he is Indian Hockey Captain
Arjun Halappa still cannot believe that he has been anointed captain of the Indian hockey team but as he prepares himself for the pressure cooker job, the veteran mid-fielder feels that a skipper should always lead by example.
Halappa has been a veteran of Indian hockey, having served the national team for nearly a decade. However, it is the first time he will be leading the national team after he was named captain for next month's Azlan Shah Cup in Ipoh, Malaysia.
"I never thought in my wildest dream that I would become captain of the national team. My father (BK Halappa) used to play hockey but I started playing the game to get a decent job as the financial condition of my family was not good. It was a dream to play for India and today I am the captain.

Bob Houghten's Tenure ends
The AIFF is not interested in any compromise formula with national football coach Bob Houghton, who is facing racial abuse charges, and his nearly five-year tenure at the helm is as good as over, top sources said today.
Sources said that there was no truth in the reports that Houghton and the AIFF are negotiating for a compromise formula to drop the racial abuse charges if the coach quits immediately.
"He is not going to step onto the field with the Indian team again. The Asian Cup in Doha (in January) was his last assignment," a source told PTI.
The AIFF is also unlikely to pay six months' salary as compensation to Houghton, who was appointed coach in 2006.

Badminton- Skirt Controversy
A new rule which makes wearing skirts on court mandatory for female shuttlers has created a furore in India with former and current players saying such an "unfair" move could discourage girls from taking up the sport.
The Badminton World Federation (BWF) has introduced a new dress code, which requires all female shuttlers to wear skirts from May 1. Players may continue to wear shorts if they wish to but it has to be underneath a skirt.
India's most successful doubles player Jwala Gutta and her doubles partner Ashwini Ponnappa and a few like them prefer wearing skirts on court but even they feel it should not be made compulsory.

MUMBAI VS PUNE
Pune Warriors coach Geoff Marsh feels that a total in excess of 150 for the team batting first is par for the course on the Wankhede strip that is conducive for batsmen.
"It looks like a very good wicket. We have to score at least 150 plus. But we will have to see how it plays in the first six overs and then reassess the target," the former Australian batsman told reporters ahead of his team's clash against hosts Mumbai Indians here tomorrow.
Geoff said though their rivals Mumbai Indians are a very good side, they are not unbeatable.
